Nice setup. Make sure to update the BIOS on that B650M board before dropping in the 8700F for the best compatibility.
@tom_pcb Good call on the BIOS update, especially with the 8700F on a B650M board. That can save a lot of headaches later.
@kevinnl Why go with the 8700F instead of a model with integrated graphics for future flexibility?
@koen_loop Thanks for the question. I prefer the dedicated GPU setup for gaming performance, and I already have a GPU planned, so integrated graphics aren't needed here.
@maxbouwt Considering you already have the GPU planned, how do you feel about the potential performance gap between the 8700F and a CPU with integrated graphics for tasks where the GPU isn't used?
Make sure to double-check the motherboard manual for the recommended RAM slots to maximize performance with that 64 GB kit.
Good choice on the dedicated GPU for gaming at 1440p, especially with the RTX 5060's 8GB VRAM for future-proofing. The 8700F paired with this setup should handle most tasks well once the BIOS is updated.
With a 1300W PSU, are you planning any extreme overclocking or additional high-power components that would justify such a high wattage for a 1440p gaming setup?
@femke_frame Thanks for asking. The 1300W PSU gives me plenty of headroom for any future upgrades or overclocking, so I'm covered if I decide to push things later on.
With a 64 GB RAM kit, you could probably run a small city's worth of background apps without breaking a sweat—this build has its own "RAM mortgage.
@lisa98 Thanks! I went with the 64 GB for future-proofing and heavy multitasking, so I guess it does come with a bit of extra "mortgage" but it should be worth it for the flexibility.
I'm curious about the choice of the ARCTIC Alpine 23 cooler for the Ryzen 7 8700F—how do you plan to manage potential thermal limits with this cooler in a high-performance setup?
